HDMI, DVI and Component Cables Explained

HDMI, DVI and Component Cables Explained

Hdmi

Background:

As the HDTV market continues to heat up, consumers are in need of being educated on the latest technology in order to make intelligent purchasing decisions. There are a plethora of articles explaining the technical pros and cons of the 3 dominant HDTV display technologies namely: LCD, Plasma, and DLP. However, one all- important, but overlooked feature in selecting a HDTV set is the type of HD video connection. The video connections available for HDTV are: component video, DVI (digital video interface) and HDMI (high definition multi-media interface). We will discuss briefly the pros and cons of each.

Component video cable commonly referred to as R, G, B (Red, Green, Blue) actually consists of 3 separate cables because it distributes the 3 primary color components to the display. All colors can be generated from weighted distribution of each Red, Green and Blue color components. Of the 3 HD connection technologies available today, analog component video is the most mature technology.

-Advantage: Analog component video cable is mature and cost effective.

-Disadvantage: component video cables are analog! All HDTV sets are inherently digital therefore extra digital to analog and analog to digital conversion is necessary in order to process the video. This extra conversion can introduce video artifacts. Since all HDTV's are digital, it only makes sense to use an all- digital connection such as DVI or HDMI.

DVI (digital video interface)as the name suggests is an all-digital video connection. Unlike analog component cables the DVI interface transports the original digitized R,G, B video signals from the HD source to the HD display. Since it is all digital, no artifacts or degradation will be incurred. You will get EXACTLY the picture that the video source supplies with no degradation. DVI connection is often found on HDTV as well as PC video cards.

-Advantage : DVI is ALL-digital, so there is no picture degradation from source to display.

-Disadvantage : Digitizing R, G, B requires extremely high bandwidth. The aggregate data rate of the digital R, G, B signals is 1.65 Gbps! The high bandwidth means that cable quality is important and also the link distance is limited. Typical link budget for a DVI is ~ 15 ft.

HDMI (high definition multi-media interface) is the latest state of art audio and video connection. Technically, HDMI is identical to DVI with 3 notable differences. 1) HDMI is a much smaller connector (it looks like an U.S.B. connector), 2) HDMI utilizes copy protection called HDCP (high definition copy protection) and 3) HDMI carries multi channel digital audio. HDMI, like DVI, is ALL-digital therefore picture quality is "perfect" from source to display.

-Advantage: HDMI is a single digital video and Audio connection. Only 1 single cable is needed to transport both audio and video! This significantly reduces cable clutter behind your theater setup.

-Disadvantage: Like DVI, the link distance is limited and a high quality cable is required because of the inherently high bandwidth required to transport digital R, G, B. video.

Conclusion:

As the HDTV market continues to mature, consumers will need to be educated on the HDTV video connections available. We have outlined briefly the main features along with the pros and cons of each connection solution, so the consumer can make intelligent a choice in selecting the HDTV video connections.

Tips For Buying HDMI Cables

Tips For Buying HDMI Cables

Hdmi

There are many people who enjoy having the most state of the art home theatre system possible. They can go out and spend a bundle on the best television and the best speakers, but if they do not have the proper HDMI cables, the quality will not be what it should be. Since the cables that come with most home theatre systems are not always of the best quality, it is important to know the best tips for buying HDMI cables.

The most important thing to remember when shopping for HDMI cables is to shop around. Take a look at the specifications for each kind of cable. They vary greatly between different types and the differences can have a significant impact on the price. Read the packaging carefully and only get what is needed to avoid spending unnecessary money.

In general, it is a good idea to go with CL2 cables. These cables are installed inside the wall and are far less likely to catch on fire than other types of cables. This is great for someone who may want to sell their home in the future because these cables will not meet with any opposition from a home inspector.

Brand names might be necessary for some things, but when it comes to HDMI cables, do not be afraid to go with the generic brand. Look over the specifications and make sure that they are the same as those from the name brand cables. If they are, then the generic brand cables will do exactly the same job at a far lower price than the name brands.

When buying HDMI cables, it is important to look at all of the specification and make sure that someone is not paying for more features than they need. Shoppers should also be aware that the generic brand is just as good as the name brand, which can be far more expensive. With these tips for buying HDMI cables, it should be no problem to have the best video and audio possible for a home theatre system.

VGA to HDMI Cables

VGA to HDMI Cables

Hdmi

It may seem like a good idea to buy a VGA to HDMI cable at first glance. But unfortunately, this is not the case. These cables simply don't work; they can't work. The solution that is needed to connect a computer to a high definition television is much more elaborate. A passive cable is unable to do the job so we need to look for a powered solution that can actively translate the signal.

The problem is that a VGA signal is analog, while an HDMI signal is digital. An analog to digital conversion requires an active process that evaluates each bit of information passed and translates it from its range of values to some combination of ones and zeros that can be understood by the receiving end of the HD cable.

The other problem that the conversion presents is that an HDMI cable carries both audio and video signals over the same wire. VGA only carries video signals. Even if we could use a cable to go between the two port types, our audio would get left behind at the computer station.

The real solution is probably to use what is called a VGA to HDMI converter box. The box accepts cables of both types (usually plus an audio input to accompany the video only signal from the computer) and converts the separate audio and video signals into one cohesive digital signal that can be carried by the HDMI cable. There is some loss of quality, but overall it's the best solution that really exists unless you can find different cable types to use.

Annoyed, you finally decide to read the manual (which most people would never have thought to do), see a reference to a sort of high-Connection Definition called HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface), and realize that is exactly what it takes to fetch. So back to your local dealer you go, only to be confronted with the DVD players that Upscale, HD-DVD, Blu-ray, video game consoles, and dozens of other products that use the same new interface. Just when you thought you understood your new HDTV, you will be frustrated by the many opportunities available.

Old-style analog video connections are notoffer almost the standard HDMI connection, which can pass through a single cable for audio and video signals, this is the new High Definition age connection standard. If your TV supports Full HD, verify that an HDMI cable to take advantage of this. Instead of a multitude of wires and a tangle of wires behind the TV and the winds entertainment system, HDMI allows the best of both worlds by combining audio and video into a single digital cable.

To help you learn whatThe purchase and why, let's look briefly at HDTV resolutions and their meanings.

HDTV Resolutions:

- 480th (480 interlaced lines of resolution), as well as what you saw on TV for years known normal

- 480p (480 progressive lines of resolution) Known as SDTV, progressively scanning images from a DVD player generates nicer, smoother image on SDTV / HDTV

- 720p (720 progressive lines of resolution) This is the first step in HDTV. Taking into account the 720 lines of resolution, almost twice as 480p, provides a softer in the high-definition TV

- 1080i (1080 interlaced lines of resolution) is currently the highest resolution of satellite and cable operators are available, offering exceptional quality on the TV can display 1080th

- 1080p (1080 progressive lines of resolution) also known as Full HD 1080p, is now "IT" on the market in terms of improved quality.

Now that you understand the progression of HDTVDecisions, we try to understand what all those numbers really mean on that new HDTV just bought.

HDMI cables - what should I buy?

HDMI cables - what should I buy?

Hdmi

HDMI or High Definition Multimedia Interface is the main component cable for connecting HD devices. An HDMI cable can all formats of digital video and audio. Seemed to HDMI, you had to separate cable for audio and video. You can also share content from an Internet connection. It can do this super-cable, not to mention cleaning up the wires behind the TV, it is. Do not you have dozens of cable confusion in all directions, an HDMI cable is all that. Need

For the best high-definition images, you must do all your home entertainment equipment - TV, Blu-ray players, game consoles, set-top box connected via an HDMI cable. Of course, all these devices are HD-capable. HD component cables to produce images (limited to 1080i), but you will still need the cable for audio output. And due to AACS restrictions have made all Blu-ray in 2010, only component-video-408thConnections. HDMI is the best option.

Once the devices are connected via HDMI, have the ability to communicate with each other and discover each others capabilities. For example, if a Blu-ray player is connected to an HDTV, there is a process that automatically configure the settings like video resolution and aspect ratio of the content, he played up to match the capabilities of your HDTV.

Features Non-version numbers

Since its introduction in 2002, HDMISpecifications continued development. With each new version, a number of new features have been added. Version 1.3 was introduced in 2006 and 1.4 in 2009 launched.

The new versions were able to integrate the manufacturer of the new features in their devices. However, just because a TV or Blu-ray player is 1.4 and does not mean you can run all the cable features 1.4. For example, a Blu-ray player via HDMI Ethernet channel and thus the player can advertise 1.4 degree. SomeConsumer plays the Blu-ray then 3D is 3D, a feature associated with the 1.4 version of HDMI. But it would be unfair. With version numbers for HDMI cables can cause confusion and mislead the consumer.

For this reason, the version numbers are finally abolished when it comes to HDMI cables. Producers can still take to January 1, 2012 will be used, but must also reflect the particularities of their devices. All data are compatible withDevices. This is good news because they do not have to worry about new cable to work with older components.

What cable should I?

There are several companies marketing an HDMI cable. Some are good, some may be a little 'shady. Some will not even mislead the consumer, what is the cable into the situation and has the advantage of cable over the competition. This can cause consumers to several hundred dollars more to spend than necessary. The consumer mustexpensive HDMI cable offer any benefits gained in terms of image quality over HDMI cables in smaller or less.

There are four types of HDMI cables. Standard speed (also known as category 1), with or without Ethernet and high-speed (also known as category 2), with or without Ethernet cables. Standard Speed cables can be up to 1080i resolution video and high-speed cable well beyond 1080p resolution. Standard cable is likely to 1080p content, but are nottold to do so. However, if you get the "right kind of cable," as there is not much difference in price when it comes to standard and high-speed connections, should be like buying them, no problem.

With the "right kind of cable," mean "as cheap as possible." No matter what you say, when it comes to image quality, there is no distinction between expansive and inexpensive HDMI cable HDMI cable. The expensive cable may have a stronger and thicker, or castingbeefier connection. But you would think this is what you value. Most of us just need a cable to our Blu-ray player or cable box to connect to our TV. In these short distances a cheap HDMI cable will provide the best possible image and sound quality. Even over long distances, an inexpensive HDMI cable with the functionality in order.

So if you buy an HDMI cable, make sure you do not pay more than $ 5 U.S. dollars to two feet. Otherwise you pay too much. NotNot to be confused with the device features HDMI and HD-functions.

Difference in quality between generic and Monster HDMI cables HDMI cables

There is a difference in image quality between the expensive HDMI cables for $ 99.00 retail electronic and generic brand HDMI cables, which can buy almost stuck with the change between the sofa cushions? To find out, is all, what we have to see what a HDMI cable. HDMI is a digital signaling protocol used for both audio and video signals, ie between the HDMI source (cable, satellite box, Blu-ray, etc.) and broadcast television, there is only one digitalSignal.

Digital signals provide information about the tracks. This means that the TV is only a matter of when it receives a response signal: It 'a 1 or 0? It 'really is that simple! With digital cable, whether or not the signal. There is no "in between" - without signal degradation that can occur with analog signals. If there is an electromagnetic interference or radio interference, it is highly unlikely that the TV for a 0, 1 or 0-1 for an error. If youconcerned about EMI and RFI interference, you can use a low-AWG cable. The lower the AWG number, the thickness of the cable. AWG cables are ideal for low wall installations and long cables.

Hdmi

Trademark or not, there are HDMI cable gives you the same results. As long as the cable meets the HDMI, it is good to go. From now on, to go with the cheaper generic brand cable to prevent burning along in your wallet!

HDMI cables provide the best transmission

In this age of instant communication and information are intended to be surrounded by a bundle of wires. Although most of the gadgets we use today are increasingly wireless, and now everything is just a click away from us, the wires are still an integral part of our lives. Previously you had to go through several layers of information before it reaches us, but not so nowadays. Wires do it for us. We receive video transmission, audio signals, data, and each bitInformation of any electronic device on these wires. Every aspect of our lives, be it medical, financial, educational and social also suspended the operation of these wires.

The quality of this cable has been improved with technological advances. We have always returned better transmission quality of data of any kind with respect to a few years ago. This was possible only through constant research and changes in the quality of these lines. HDMI cables are the first and onlyall uncompressed digital video / audio interfaces. HDMI supports high-definition video and multichannel audio on a single cable. There is also the cost, complexity and eliminates the confusion of multiple cables because of its cable system. It has many features updated means of transmission, such as higher speeds, deep color and lip sync. All major consumer electronics manufacturers are supporting these cables. Wire World is the leading manufacturer of HDMI and other cables and it has carveda niche for himself in a very short time.

Hdmi

Speaker cable connects a speaker and an audio amplifier. A good speaker cable offers features such as resistance, capacitance and inductance to determine their performance. The wire should be based on the quality of the purposes of production, price, comfort and aesthetics. You can have a great sound system, but the wires do not get up, you can experience high quality sound we all crave after the ruin. Thoughone has good quality speakers, is of no relevance to the poor quality of cables. You have to be careful about the properties of these cables may like length, thickness and suitability as these or the failure of a system.

No matter how you wire the cradle on the cross in our lounge or our desktop, we can not deny that the tubes are here to stay for some time. What can improve our lives, choosing the appropriate cable, you can go a long way in the realization of the truePotential of the various electronic gadgets.

Monster Cable Vs Cheap HDMI Cable - High End HDMI cables are really worth the price?

It 'was widely, though expensive Monster HDMI cable to run to $ 120 for 2 meters is compared with some generic brands, the cost is worth much less controversial. The same goes for DVI-HDMI, DVI-DVI or DVI-VGA cable. In this article we focus primarily on HDMI cables and the cost of their dignity.

Most of the debates on the dignity of expensive HDMI cables to some technical details that many consumers may find either boring or too difficult to understand. AsThus, the majority of consumers are unclear on this issue.

Hdmi

Many of us think of buying the cheap HDMI cables that expensive cables are just a joke, and that does not lose much in the way of the digital signal. Others buy expensive Monster cables as the cable, in the hope that we made the right choice and did what we could "buy" our way to heaven in high definition. After all, who said that the quality is cheap?

Well, I'm one of those consumers who want the best in picturesQuality without compromise. At the same time I do not want a solution that is burning a hole in my pocket, enough to awaken my true high definition 1080p appetite.

I took it upon myself to do some research and came across some compelling data in the process for the more expensive Monster HDMI cable.

Monster says that the bandwidth is king, and is the 1080p signal and its needs, Monster cables apart from the knock-offs. If you try to pushhigh bandwidth for the desired signal, the throughput, the cable does not offer through Monster cables are designed generic cheap to acquire.

The connections are also expensive Monster cables designed to withstand constant wear and tear, while the less expensive cables can not boast the same. Many players understand this concept quite well, where its plants "over time may suffer as a result of the short patch cable.

But even if a cable has an HDMI connector style that does not mean that it is aHDMI certified. Make sure you mean the HDMI logo, the certification of the licensing authority HDMI. Only high-end cables like Monster Cable HDMI 1.3a certified and very high speeds.

Length is also an important factor. Along the cable, the greater the signal loss. This loss of signal in the HDMI cable is relieved when we go to the quality scale. High-end cables show a much less signal degradation with increasing cable length. Use the cable as short as possibleLength to minimize signal loss.

With this information in hand, I realized that I definitely wanted to order an HDMI cable for a true experience without compromise. However, those who seek to "always" offered online, I took it upon myself to do comparison shopping for Monster Cable HDMI.

What are the advantages and benefits of using HDMI cables?

Trying to listen, or HDMI-enabled devices is more than enough for you to see the benefit or advantage to HDMI cable. HDMI is all digital, data is provided, which will be vastly superior to analog. In fact, the compression you will use the wireless HDMI over analog cable. Therefore, there is no loss of detail audio or video is to be observed. In addition to this cable, there's nothing like digital-analogThe conversions performed normally in other digital interfaces. In fact, the analog-digital conversion process is actually what leads to a kind of interference in the versions of the data.

In order to facilitate innovation and progress of HDMI, use more of the actual bandwidth. It 'was in 2002, has undergone a very early release under the HDMI technology called HDMI 1.0. This cable can support only about 3.96 Mbit / s for video and LPCM / 192KHz / audio eight channel 24-bit. However, later versions with the option of Dolby True HD, Deep Color and a bit 'of audio support. Since it is an HDMI cable, will obviously be cheaper. You do not need three video connections, which were used primarily for high definition. Apparently there was a need of six compounds above for high-definition audio.

Hdmi

Investigations have shown that up to 140 million were acquired through the HDMIPeople in 2007. Therefore, there is nothing to be surprised when you find an increase in the coming years, people are beginning to recognize the advantages and benefits with the HDMI cables are connected.

What is the difference between HDMI cables, component cable and RCA cable?

A look back at the changes in technology over the past decade is difficult to accept some of the new technologies with the old. Even if a new TV that does not mean that everything that has bought into it, is also updated. However, the cables should go to the components as the HDMI cable, component cable and RCA cable or update some settings.

HDMI cables are one of the improvements in sound quality and transportation wereVideo. HDMI cables transmit digital picture and sound at the speed of light, which does not require conversion to video or audio to come through. Because of the way, HDMI cables to maintain the integrity of audio and video, are consistent for connecting DVD players, cable or satellite and music input via a single cable, which is also used interchangeably with different types of converters and adapters. HDMI cables are the best choice for the leadership of the wire configuration to a minimum andmost out of it.

Hdmi

However, remember that what is put in the HDMI cable does not mean that it keep its HD. So the image and the sound of BlueRay is not the same player to watch your movies through 1984. The average number of plug-in HDMI limited to, what would you possibly choose which devices have priority.

Component cables are essentially video cables, which are divided into three components. If you are looking forto life, that old home video in 1984, as this may be what you need help refresh the memories without worrying about the pixel and / or stretched. Cable Component name 'is "the fact that the signals are separated from each other, resulting to avoid interference with each other. Most of the component cables for video and audio transmission division. The videos are broadcast more often in those based transmission, S-Video, RGB and are separatedYPbPr.

Component cables can run anywhere from half a foot to 50 feet in length. I'm just too much, because most TV's have colorful plug-ins in multiple locations of the TV plug. This means that if you need a rapid deployment of component-cable plug-in (like a camera) are easily accessible and offer a quick way to get what you want on the big screen.

The most popular type of component cables RCA cable, consisting of a male nameFine, that is color and has a copper ring around the input features, flexibility and stability. In contrast with HDMI cable, the gauge of HDMI cable is irrelevant to the quality that comes out. However, the quality of the cables is important. Consider the technology of the spinal cord and how they are used. Not so subtle RCA cables in the attic which is over 140 degrees in summer you're going to send up reel 10 meters behind the RCAEntertainment Center.

During the construction of your entertainment center, consider the priority of audio and video devices and the functionality of your TV, then measure thickness, length and quality of your cable needs prioritized, and there will be more out of your center home entertainment as you get could imagine.
